Fresh off of a multi-city U.S. tour with Maxwell, New York City singer-songwriter Ro James has been buzzing for more than a minute. Signed to ByStorm Entertainment/RCA Records, he recently released his major label debut album, ELDORADO. The album reached number 3 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart, and this talented artist is poised to become a household name — not unlike singer Miguel, whom he befriended on MySpace, leading to a writing credit on the song “Use Me” off of Miguel’s sophomore release, Kaleidoscope Dream.
James, whose real name is Ronnie James Tucker, was born into a military family; he was born in Germany and lived in California, Indianapolis, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and New York. His aunt was a former singer for the late-Prince, and he often cites the singer, and his album Purple Rain, as one of his biggest influences; “It was just his artistry. His ability to be himself and not care what anyone else thought. I appreciate that. With Purple Rain, I was like, 'This shit is great.’ I can do that. I want to make people feel like that.”
James came into both his own and notoriety with the release of Coke, Jack & Cadillacs, a three-part series that reflects the three different sides that make up the man + artist we have before us: seductive, sensual and reflective. Featuring industry favorites such as Snoop Dogg and Asher Roth, the EP’s, and their cinematic visuals, were widely embraced — and quickly led to his deal and his major label debut single, "Permission." The song reached number 37 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and has gained over 13 million views on YouTube. On ELDORADO, James confidently exudes a new energy; he's more grown up and focused... and we're very excited to see where the road leads from here.
